How Much Does Laminate Flooring Cost? – Laminate Flooring Price and Installation Cost Guide

There are three major cost to consider for laminate flooring Material, Transition and labor.

  • Laminate flooring material can range from $1 per square foot for budget options to more than $6 per square foot for premium floors. The more exotic the material you purchase, the higher the laminate flooring price is going to be. An embossed finish or a designer-style plank will also add to the price of the materials. When purchasing your laminate flooring products, you’ll want to buy 10% more than your actual square footage to account for waste during installation.
  • Laminate flooring installation cost will include underlayment and finishing with wood transition pieces and 1/4-round or wall base. This price ranges from $1-$2 per square foot.
  • The cost to purchase laminate flooring is sold by square foot, but the laminate flooring installation price is calculated by the job. We look at what the project requires and the amount of time it will take. Each project is unique, and that is how we price the job.

Shop around at various big-box stores and their competition to compare laminate flooring types, prices, options, grades, and durability.

Warranties can vary from store to store and should be included in the job price. Be sure you dont pay for an extended warranty because that does not exist. You’ll want to be on the lookout for basic warranties offered by the manufacturers. The warranty should cover moisture damage. Typically, it will stipulate that the floor must be installed properly in order for this to be in effect. The warranty should also cover staining, fading and wearing of the decorative or photographic layer. Be sure to read the fine print and note what is and is not covered by the warranty.

In what thicknesses is laminate flooring available?

Laminate flooring is fused under high heat and intense pressure. The thicker the laminate, the greater the durability. The core of the product is measured in millimeters and is dependent on the grade of the product and the manufacturer. The most common laminate flooring types by thickness include:

· 6 millimeter (least cost, least durability)

· 8 millimeter

· 10 millimeter

· 12 millimeter (highest cost, highest durability)
There are many Naperville flooring companies that carry laminate flooring, but no one has a bigger selection of 12 millimeter laminate flooring than SCV Floorsmith. We carry higher-quality products than anyone else. Use the contact page to ask any questions you have about laminate flooring installation cost or materials.

  • Budget brand laminate is not recommended in high-traffic area

What Is Laminate Flooring Made Of?

If you’re wondering what is laminate flooring, it’s made of four basic components. Each layer adds durability and a specific look:

  • Backing layer also known as balancing layer is made of plastic, paper or melamine. This layer helps stabilizes the floor and helps resist moisture.
  • Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or high-density fiberboard (HDF) makes up the water-resistant substrate layer, or core layer. Both MDF and HDF are composed of wood fibers that are compressed together with adhesive and resin.
  • Pattern layer helps give laminate the look of hardwood floors. This layer is a photograph, which is constructed with multiple sheets of paper, typically constructed with multiple sheets of paper sandwiched with melamine resin. The pattern layer starts with one large photograph of wood grain, which is segmented into sections the size of the desired laminate plank. Because the same photograph is used for many planks, it is possible to have repeating patterns in a case of planks.
  • Wear layer is considered the protective later typically made of aluminum oxide clear coat. The coating can range from low to high gloss depending on the consumer’s tastes. This layer prevents moisture penetration.
